Americans use 500,000,000 drinking straws every day.
The vast majority of these straws are not recyclable, and many of them end up in the oceans, endangering the lives of sea creatures, and working their way into the food chain.
On April 12th, the Health, Energy, Resiliency and Sustainability Committee (HERS) will discuss restricting the use of disposable plastic drinking straws in the city of Saint Petersburg. Ideally, we want them to decide to draft an ordnance banning or severely restricting their use for the full council's consideration.
That's where you come in! You need to make your voices heard, so the committee members understand this is something their community wants and needs. Join us at Hawthorne Bottle Shoppe for a crash course on communicating with your council member courtesy of our coalition partner, Environment Florida.
